CMS Overview Presentation

I am glad that other members are as interested in Content Management Systems for web site as I am and am more than happy to help with the presentation on the 1st of November. It would help me in preparing for the meeting if the membership could tell me what types of sites they are needing to build using CMS so that I can be prepared.

Please respond to this thread with your ideas and needs.

outline for drupal module development

[Just to make it clear, I'm the Guest I'm replying to.]

The outline for my talk is looking something like:

Intro

  • Bit of the page structure:
    • blocks
    • pages
    • menus
    • breadcrumbs
    • etc
  • Discuss how everything is a node
  • Explain the modularity

Basic Development

  • Modules implement/extend the node
  • Outline the hook interface
  • Take a look at the layout of the SQL tables, point out things people will need to know for importation.

More Advanced Stuff (that depends on time)

  • Taxonomy (I need to learn more about it first)
  • New Form API
  • Node revisions

Some of the intro stuff will get dropped if Sam covers it in his talk.
