I do use them
The concept of templating is a must for maintainability of websites. You may not have many pages to maintain at this point but if your site is a success, you soon will.
Many feel that Smarty has just taken things a bit too far and is essentially on a small scale, is reinventing PHP (which started as a template engine).
You might look into Flexy or Savant for a light weight template engine.
