Flex Dev best install option

Flex can be installed and used in more than one way - using an Eclipse environment and also something like a stand alone at least. Since I am reading that Action Script 3 is either Java or like Java - is the Eclipse emvironment the obvious best choice? Also there seems to be an Eclipse extension called Zen - would that be an option. Thanks.

Zend not Zen - Oops

At the recent computer show I picked up a copy Zend PHP Solutions and, unless told otherwise, it probably has nothing to do with Flex and the questions I asked. Oops.

I don't know much about flex (yet), but you should check out the next meeting. It is all about Flex (2).

I use Eclipse for quite a bit of my coding these days (PHP, Javascript, Java, etc). I overall like it. It is nice to learn 1 IDE and then be able to use it for most of the coding you do.

Quick note... actually, ActionScript comes from the same roots a 'JavaScript' which is ECMA-26

script (not related to Java).

Eclipse & Flex

I have Eclipse now so I can start learning that and it does seem quite complex at first glance.

I also am planning to have Flex 2 by the time of the Flex meeting so I can ask at least some questions from experience. I had the trial version but (guess what) I let the time run out.

Buying Flex 2 with Charting for Eclipse

So I am looking at Amazon and see Flex 2 with Charting for $716 and the description mentions the use of Eclipse for Flex.

Then I look at the Adobe purchase options and it says that Flex 2 with Charting using Eclipse is $800 and Flex 2 with Charting (Eclipse not mentioned in headline) is $750. I am wondering if they want $50 for including the free Eclipse in the package or is it actually different? If so, what about the description of Flex being used with Eclipse on Amazon and they have no Flex 2 with Charting for Eclipse product.

Any ideas - any at all?

Never looked into purchasing flex. I would call adobe and make sure you get the right one. that's a lot of $$$'s

Amazon - Flex 2 - 1 user

After some thought I decided to buy Flex Builder 2 (1 User) with Charting from Amazon for $715.99 ($749 direct from Adobe - $33 savings). Amazon seems to have an old price so they claim a bigger savings. Also on the Adobe site where the price was 799 for Flex 2 Builder with Charting - if you then click on Buy the price magically drops to 749.

Somewhat funny item - on tracking my order I see that it was shipped in the Portland area so I am getting 2 day shipping quite by accident of location.
